Kids love Halloween, especially when it comes to the desserts. For those who prefer cute to scary, these Halloween party sweets are sure to delight.

While scary and ghoulish food items are great for a Halloween party, some may prefer the tamer and cuter desserts. Younger or squeamish children may also not be very keen on the 'bloody severed finger' cookies that others find so hilarious.

For those that prefer a cute and inoffensive approach, there are plenty of adorable desserts that will make Halloween just as fun for the 'sweet at heart'

Following are a few dessert ideas that are easy to make and that will look amazingly adorable when finished. The kids can even help so they will have fun making them as well as eating them after wards.

Even if there isn't a Halloween party planned, these can be enjoyed throughout the holiday, as they will keep a festive Halloween feel for both the kids and adults alike.

Meringue Ghosts

Meringue can be made from scratch, or it can be bought in powder form to be mixed at home as well. To make homemade meringue follow the instructions below:

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • dash of salt
  • 2/3 cup bakers sugar
  • chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Separate the egg whites very carefully making sure no egg yoke remains with the whites. In a medium metal or glass bowl (don't use aluminum or plastic) beat the egg whites, cream of tartar and salt with an electric mixer. Beat mixture until it becomes frothy and bubbly, but before the soft peak stage.
  2. Slowly add the sugar in a stream while still beating the whites with the mixer. Keep mixing for a few minutes until the mixture turns firm and holds a peak. On a cookie sheet lined with wax paper pipe the meringue into ghost shapes with a pastry bag or a zip-log bag with a corner cut off.
  3. Bake in the oven at about 225 Degrees F for about an hour, and then leave in the turned-off oven for another hour. Melt some chocolate chips and paint little eyes on the ghosts' faces with the melted chocolate.

Pumpkin Face Cupcakes

Buy regular plain cupcakes at the store or bake your own. Then decorate.

Ingredients needed:

  • Cupcakes
  • Orange icing
  • Chocolate chips

Spread the orange icing on top of the cupcake. Melt the chocolate chips and pour into a pastry bag or a zip-lock bag with a corner cut off allowing for a very small hole. Decorate the 'pumpkin face' by drawing eyes and teeth with the melted chocolate so it resembles a 'jack-o'-lantern'.

Spider Sandwich Cookies

Use round butter cookies or make your own and then decorate them.

Ingredients:

  • Sugar cookies
  • Nutella
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Powder sugar
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Heat the water in a small saucepan and add the sugar until it becomes a glaze. Spread the glaze on top of half of the cookies and let them dry until the glaze turns white.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate chips and pour into a pastry bag or a zip-lock bag with a small cut on one of the corners. Draw a spider with the melted chocolate on top of each white glazed cookie.
  3. Spread Nutella on top of the other half of undecorated cookies and top them with the spider decorated ones to make a spider sandwich cookie.
  4. Try these dessert ideas for a sweet Halloween treat. The kids will love them and will also have lots of fun helping with the decorating. They will help put everyone in the spirit for some Halloween celebrating whether for a party or a night of trick-or-treating fun.
