Halloween Snacks, Spider Punch, Hot Sandwiches and Cookies

Think of Halloween as a creative time to make spook-tacular foods to please goblins and ghouls of any age.

Whether you are hosting a “boo bash” party or just making Halloween treats for the family, these recipes are easy and fun to create.

Halloween Bones and Blood

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar Marinara sauce (blood)
  • canned breadsticks (bones) (can found in refrigerator section)
  • cookie sheet
  • Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions:

  1. Cut the breadsticks into halves.
  2. Curve the ends of each breadstick into bone shapes.
  3. Sprinkle the "bones" with Parmesan cheese.
  4. Bake as directed on the package.
  5. Place these bones onto a dish and serve with a bowl of warm Marinara sauce.

Spider Punch

Ingredients:

  • 1 envelope Kool-Aid orange flavor unsweetened mix
  • 3 quarts cold water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 quart bottle ginger ale (chilled)
  • black plastic spiders
  • ice cube trays
  • pitcher
  • large spoon (for mixing)

Directions:

  1. Place plastic spiders into ice cube tray sections. Add water and freeze.
  2. Pour the Kool Aid and sugar in a large pitcher. Add water and mix together.
  3. Just before serving the punch add the ginger ale.
  4. To make a spooky punch, add spider ice cubes to the pitcher.
  5. Remember to tell your guests "don't drink the spiders"!

Hot Halloween Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • English muffins split in half
  • black olives
  • pepper strips; red or green
  • shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese onto an English muffin half.
  2. Make a jack-o-lantern face using black olives and pepper strips (green or red).
  3. Heat the sandwich in the oven until the cheese melts.

Create a Face Cookie

Ingredients:

  • oatmeal cookies; store bought or your favorite recipe
  • peanut butter or chocolate frosting
  • decorations such as chocolate chips, candy corn, gumdrops, shoestring licorice, tiny marshmallows and fruit-flavored round cereal.
  • camera (optional)

Directions:

  1. Buy or bake oatmeal cookies.
  2. Invite the children (guests) to frost the cookies with peanut butter or chocolate icing.
  3. Give them a plastic knife to do the frosting (nothing sharp).
  4. Provide decorations and let the kids enjoy making funny faces on the cookie.
  5. Take photos for a lasting memory, then eat and enjoy.

Halloween Shaped Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • egg salad, tuna salad, peanut butter, jelly, and luncheon meats
  • cheese slices
  • bread
  • pumpkin, jack-o-lantern, ghost, witch, or cat cookie cutters

Directions:

  1. Make fancy shaped sandwiches with familiar fillings, such as egg salad, tuna salad, peanut butter and jelly, or luncheon meats and cheese.
  2. Use Halloween theme cookie cutters to cut slices of white or whole wheat breads. The cutters can also cut the luncheon meats and slices of cheese.
  3. Fill the breads and cover with another shaped slice.
  4. Plate your sandwiches on a theme platter.

Make a Halloween Brew

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart apple cider
  • cinnamon sticks and cloves
  • 1 quart ginger ale soda
  • Halloween cups

Directions:

  1. Combine one quart of apple cider with a couple of cinnamon sticks and cloves.
  2. Bring this to a boil and simmer the brew for about ten minutes.
  3. Cool. Add one quart ginger ale soda and served chilled in Halloween cups.
