These cute cupcakes, shaped like little pigs, are sure to be a hit with both children and adults of all ages. Serve them at a farm themed birthday party or just for fun.
Transform a regular everyday cupcake into an adorable pink piggy cupcake in just a few simple steps. Here's how to do it.
Piggy Cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 box cake mix, any flavor
1 can of white or vanilla frosting
1 bottle of red food coloring
1 tube of black decorating icing
1 bag large marshmallows
white or pink cupcake liners
Directions:
Make cupcakes according to box directions, and let cool.
Add one or two drops of red food coloring to one can of white or vanilla frosting and stir together until frosting is the desired color of pink.
Cut one large marshmallow in half horizontally, so that the round end is still intact. Repeat this step for each cupcake as one marshmallow will be needed for each.
Set aside one half of the marshmallow to use as the pig snout, and slice the remaining half diagonally to make the ears. Repeat this step for each cupcake.
Frost the marshmallow snout and ears with pink frosting, so that each piece of the marshmallow cut outs are completely frosted.
Frost the top of the cupcakes with pink frosting.
Place the frosted marshmallow snout on top of the frosted cupcake and position so that it is on the lower half of the cupcake. Extra frosting can be used to adhere the marshmallow to the cupcake if necessary.
Place the frosted marshmallow ears on top of the frosted cupcake and position so that they are on the top half of the cupcake where the ears on a pig face would be. Extra frosting can be used to adhere the marshmallow pieces to the cupcake if needed.
Once the marshmallow snout and ears have been properly placed to form a pig shaped face, take a tube of black decorating icing and squeeze out drops to make each eye.
Squeeze out two drops of black decorating icing onto the top of each marshmallow snout to make the nostrils.
Tips
Extra red food coloring can be added to achieve a deeper pink frosting for those who want pinker pigs. Just be sure and add a little bit of food coloring at a time so that the frosting doesn't get overly pink.
One large marshmallow will be needed for each individual cupcake. Half of one marshmallow will be used as the snout, the other half will need to be cut in half again diagonally to achieve the look of pig ears.
Frost and decorate one cupcake at a time instead of frosting the top of all the cupcakes and then adding the decorative face. The marshmallows will adhere better to frosting that is still moist. If the frosting is too dry for the marshmallow snout and ears to adhere, add a bit of extra frosting to help it stick together.
Choose strawberry flavored cupcakes to continue the pink color throughout the treat, or use a homemade cupcake recipe instead of a box mix if desired.
Serve these cute cupcakes on a white or silver cake plate, or place them on top of a cookie sheet lined with green raffia to give the appearance of pigs in a field of grass. Any way they are presented will be a delight to guests at a farm themed party or fun gathering for children.
