Dressing up popcorn with additional color and flavor is a wonderful way to liven up the snack table at any kids' party, Superbowl, or social gathering.

Some of the best-loved snacks include popcorn in the mix. Popcorn balls are a popular treat for the Halloween season or Christmas holidays. Caramel corn can make a unique gift for a friend or loved one. Cheese flavored corn can be a savory Saturday night treat for the family. But nothing compares to the addictive qualities of white chocolate-flavored popcorn. This recipe dresses up the coating with color and also adds an additional tasty ingredient.

White Chocolate Popcorn Recipe

The addition of bright food coloring is one creative way to draw attention to this white chocolate-coated popcorn delight. Choose an appropriate color for the occasion, such as one to match a favorite sports team, school graduation, baby shower, or birthday party and compliment the appetizer display. Another idea would be to separate the popcorn and chocolate into two equal amounts and create two different colored popcorn mixes that can be combined at the end.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of popcorn kernels, not popped and not the microwave style
  • 2-12 ounce packages of white chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • Approximately 10-12 drops of food coloring, color of choice
  • 1 cup chocolate-covered peanut candies, complimentary colors

Directions

  1. Pop the popcorn according to package directions.
  2. Place popped corn into a large bowl for mixing.
  3. Add the peanut candy to the popcorn and set aside.
  4. To a separate microwave safe bowl, add white chocolate chips, food coloring, and oil.
  5. Heat chocolate mixture in the microwave for one minute.
  6. Stir the chocolate mixture until color spreads evenly.
  7. Heat the mixture for 30 seconds more if necessary.
  8. Pour the melted chocolate over the popcorn and peanut candy.
  9. Mix quickly and coat as evenly as possible.
  10. Pour out the popcorn mixture onto a baking sheet.
  11. Spread out the mix into a thin layer and let cool and dry for at least one hour.

Creative Additions and Substitutions

Many other creative additions are possible with this popcorn recipe. Try including pretzels, mini chocolate kisses, cheerios, or Chex cereal to add interest and texture. Throw in a few raisins or even some crunchy toffee pieces. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

An awesome way to introduce a little whimsy to a winter sports party, a child’s birthday celebration, or a lunchbox snack, this pleasing sweet snack mix will be a great alternative to processed junk food or packaged treats. It is even a terrific dessert possibility.
